A Montana Women’s Collective for Modern Fly Fishing Education

Our Approach & Philosophy

History & Tradition

We recognize the rich history that shaped our sport and continue to honor the classic techniques, stories, and teachers who built the foundation for all of us. At Aquila, tradition is not something we preserve from a distance. It’s something we actively include and carry forward through thoughtful, skillful instruction. We draw on well worn methods to not only act as a foundation to our curriculum, but also to expose students to the longstanding tradition of the fly angling.

Modern Updates

Fly fishing is always evolving, and so are we. Our curriculum brings together the best of modern innovation with a new, collaborative way of teaching that reflects how anglers learn today. We also prioritize conservation, angling ethics, and stewardships as a core pillar inside of our programming. We’re excited to be leading with a teaching philosophy and methodology that centers our ethos within technical education and experience.

Inviting Spaces

We take education seriously, but we keep the atmosphere warm, supportive, and grounded in both skill development and down to earth enjoyment. Aquila is a place where women can learn, practice, and explore without pressure or pretense. Whether you’re casting for the first time or refining more advanced skills, you’ll find a community that welcomes curiosity, growth, and connection.

Meet Our Founder

Aquila was founded by Lindsay Kocka, who serves as the program developer and lead educator.

With a background in fly fishing instruction, movement, and performance-based coaching, Lindsay has worked with hundreds of women to build skill, confidence, and a deeper connection to the water through a more thoughtful, education-first approach.

While Aquila is currently led and facilitated by Lindsay, the long-term vision is to grow into a collaborative school—bringing together women guides, educators, and industry professionals to contribute their expertise and expand the learning experience.

Based in Bozeman, Aquila is rooted in the landscapes and communities of southwest Montana and designed to support women in developing a lasting relationship with the sport.
